Predictions for the Top Risks in 2019 and What to do About Them

With cyber attacks and geopolitical threats continuing to dominate the headlines, the results of the RANE Risk Survey suggest that risks from the Safety/Security and Cyber/Information categories will continue as major issues over the next year.
In particular, respondents rated an attack on critical infrastructure as the threat with the biggest impact, as well as one of the threats firms are least prepared to handle. The findings suggest that companies may also need to direct more resources and attention towards risks in the Medical/Psychological and Geopolitical Intelligence areas.

Executive Director, Risk Desk at RANE
Prior to joining RANE, Denny spent 27 years as an analyst with the Central Intelligence Agency. In addition to creating and leading several large, innovative analytic programs at CIA, Denny served as the President’s Daily Briefer to Vice President Gore and Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld, and also served on the Senate Armed Services Committee staff for Senator Nunn. In recent years, Denny has developed big data analytics solutions that address emerging risks in the public and private sectors.
Executive Director, Expert Relations at RANE
Matt is responsible for the development and management of the company’s proprietary expert risk network, including overseeing new expert recruitment, onboarding, engagement, and relationship management.
Prior to Joining RANE, Matt was the Chief Operating Officer of a RANE expert network firm that offered comprehensive security and duty of care services to corporate and individual clients on a global basis. He was responsible for oversight of firm-wide operations and client service delivery in over 75 countries, and also served as the President of the firm’s global medical evacuation division.
Before that, Matt spent 10 years in federal law enforcement, serving as a Special Agent with both the Secret Service and FBI, conducting extensive financial, violent crime, and counter-terrorism investigations and completing numerous Presidential and Vice-Presidential protection assignments in the US and abroad. He was a team leader in the Secret Service Counter Assault Team, the unit responsible for the agency’s high-threat tactical protection mission, and served as an FBI SWAT Medic. Matt holds a BA in international relations from Johns Hopkins University, an MA in criminal justice from the University of Massachusetts and an MBA from Columbia Business School.
Director, Compliance Solutions at RANE
Alicia is responsible for helping clients with compliance – related inquiries, as well as building and maintaining compliance professionals in RANE’s expert risk network.
Prior to joining RANE, Alicia was a senior member of the Internal Audit team at Brown, Brothers, Harriman where she was responsible for the identification of compliance – related audit and risk issues, implementation of control evaluation procedures, and monitoring and advising on changing regulatory expectations.
Alicia also spent several years in the Risk and Regulatory practices at PwC and KPMG where she was responsible for helping clients meet Anti-Money Launder compliance needs. Specifically, she was responsible for creating and implementing AML programs on behalf of clients, developing and deploying AML training programs, and developing risk models on behalf of large global financial institutions.
Chief Marketing Officer at RANE
Greg Radner is RANE’s Chief Marketing Officer. Greg is an experienced marketing and business executive with a focus on brand building, business growth, and customer-driven innovation. Before joining RANE, Greg was Vice President, Marketing for National Financial, a Fidelity Investments company and a leading provider of clearing and custody solutions. Greg was responsible for National Financial’s thought leadership, public relations, and advertising programs.
Prior to Fidelity, Greg was Global Head of PR Services at Thomson Reuters, where he managed their solutions for public relations professionals to streamline and simplify their workflow, increase the effectiveness of their media outreach, and help them analyze perceptions among their key stakeholders. While at Thomson Reuters, Greg conceived, designed and launched BoardLink, a web-based board and C-suite communications tool now used by many Fortune 500 companies. Greg has also held senior marketing and product management roles at CCBN (acquired by Thomson Reuters) and at FleetBoston Financial (acquired by Bank of America). He is a graduate of Harvard University and received his MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
